There are many reasons you may want to consider updating your router’s firmware, here are several of them.

Cable modems have built-in diagnostics for getting information on the quality of the cable signal coming to the modem.
Please do NOT update the router via Wi Fi connection as this might damage the router.

Your router’s firmware is basically the operating system that is specifically designed to run on your specific make and model of router (unless you are using a multi-router compatible open source firmware such as DD-WRT).
I must update here that the Routertech team has declared this router as “incompatible” with their wireless PSP firmware.
If you’re still going to update to this firmware, either know what you’re doing and ask reasonable questions, or you’re on your own.
